Hey people.. India finally stands fifth amongst the elite class of currencies that have an internationally accepted symbol notation. Isn't it cool?
A day before, only US Dollar $, European Euro €, UK Pound ₤ and Japanese Yen ¥ stood proud and strong about their economic strength..Today, Indian Rupee takes a step forward and above many other Asian countries it shared its earlier notation 'Rs.' with.
I was viewing the interview of this Indian common man- D Udaya Kumar
whose symbol got selected and recognized from amongst that of the other 4000 contesting participants. He exlplained all about his logic, inspirations and derivations to form this notation but what you will not miss as yo
u watch him talking- will unmistakenly be his proud grin. He's been rewarded with just 2.5 lakh rupees by our Indian government, however, the enormous respect and recognition he has earned or will in the coming years as an Indian common man would adopt the symbol would transcend any monitary gain, however big or small. I kept wondering all through his interview for what he would be thinking? Would it ever sink in for how valuable his contribution is? Or would this just be it- in his memoirs of achievements as he would age- a glorious past he once saw which would go dim with every coming day.
July 19th, 2010:
I took a break before I could continue writing on this and now as I started researching the web for updates, the breaking news that tops the search list is where it is now being claimed and dramatized that the candidate whose symbol got selected is ineligible in view of the violations of the guidelines for the contest. Please follow the link to get the full update- http://www.saveindianrupeesymbol.org/2010/07/indian-rupee-symbol-design-winner.html
Now the inquiry committee is being set and letters being written to the political pioneers to question the mismanagement of the contest. India! While the whole world stood and took notice for atleast a day in cognition to our economical progress, we couldn't even stand united for this day to - celeberations bygone- to honor our very own development. While other countries would probably be evaluating the far reaching effects of this small step in the world of finances, some of our fellow countrymen i.e. RTI activists took no time to bring hiatus to the revelries of the nation. And while our engineering industry is designing the upgrade for our computers with a key for our new symbol, these activists are promoting their propaganda with Gandhi's quotation as follows- "Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth. Truth stands, even if there be no public support. It is self-sustained." Whether the symbol gets embossed on our currency notes and coins or not, this controversy will definitely get embossed as another episode in our history where we as a nation place barricades for our very own brothers.
Forget D Udaya Kumar , by the time this controversy would end, you would hardly remember his name. I can see his colors of glory fading already. And this affair too, would probably end up being either overblown or overshadowed for months to come in our political arena where 'INDIA' stands shorter than 'I'.

Dear,
ReplyDeleteThanks for blogging about our findings .. It's not being us but the system who had ashamed the nation...
We are not saying winner had violated the guidelines
But..its Gov. documents which had reviled, what had actually happened in Mr. D Udaya Kumar case.
Why not you blog about whole case and what OTHER facts RTI had reviled?
Let us help you here :
According to RTI Documents : Saveindianrupeesymbol.org
1. Non-eligible candidate was shortlisted in top five finalists. As candidate had submitted four designs.
2. One finalist was in contact with Finance Ministry and RBI prior to competition.
3. Design concept or brief was not put in front of jury along with Indian Rupee symbol design.
4. No marks or grades were allotted to selected (2644) candidates design entries, in the process of shortlisting top five finalist design entries.
5. Jury had spends less than 20 seconds on each design entries to analyze it .
6. Three jury member were absent in two days long meeting dated 29th Sept. and 30th Sept. 2009.
7. One jury member from Ministry of Culture was absent on the day of final presentation.
8. All seven jury member had never meet in this whole selection process in any given time.
9. No records are available with Finance Ministry which could indicated, how many total design entries Finance Ministry had received ?
10. Advertisement was only published in English language.
Above findings clearly showcases the biased attitude towards rest of the 2644 contestants who had been shortlisted as eligible contestants in the Indian Rupee Symbol Design Competition.
You are calling RTI activists as propagandist but what about the India Media who are blanketing this whole issue...
Media for the first time in the history of India has gone into a mysterious silence over the fraud played by the organisers of symbol for rupee competition .In the past the same media specially electronic media has entered the bedrooms of the people to expose them and bring infront of the world and played the news 24x7 and this time when the things are crystal clear before them they have gone into the shell.
We hope in next post you will try to blog in much balanced way ...
