Oh! Its a never ending list.. Every time I do something dumb, I realize that I beat myself over and again and achieve my all time highest score at the same game. At times, when its not funny, I sit and sulk and it never amazes me less to see how other people around me always manage to be so careful or cautious. Quite rarely, but at other times, when I do a harmless blunder, I sit and laugh, wondering if my brain was half dead. With today's incident, I think I just raised the bar for myself!..
I stood up to go grab a coffee from a cafe downstairs. I saw my paycheck sitting in my purse and realized that its been there for days. I grabbed it and descended through stairs to the lower level where an ATM machine is located just outside, on the right hand of the entrance of Quinn Cafe. Deposited my check, confirmed the amount, collected the summary slip and all through tried making up my mind what to buy today. While I love French Vanilla Cappuccino, I thought I will make a large De-cafe coffee today. Made my coffee and took a sip to see if sugar was good to my taste. I don't know if it was an immediate caffeine effect, but it hit me that I didn't collect my ATM card from the machine! I gulped and bolted towards the ATM machine which had apparently, after a small wait, consumed my card! Damn, I tried all tricks, but useless!
I hurried to take precautionary steps necessary- canceled my card and ordered a new one. Now that I got time to reflect back on what had just happened, I started laughing. Why? Because I remembered how I had lectured one of my closest friends for almost half an hour when he had told me a similar story few years back. He said he was withdrawing some amount from ATM machine and got distracted in organizing his wallet while the cash that had come out went back into the machine without any sound alert or pre-notification. I so overreacted, fumed and kept questioning him, "How could you be so dumb?". I just couldn't keep my wonder to myself and asked him," Who in the world is so dumb as to not collect MONEY from ATM machine when it comes out?". I went as far as to give him the title of a 'Most careless person alive on the face of our planet Earth'!
I think I could have acted wisest now by diminishing any evidences of my similar dumb show. However, it was hard to resist writing about something so stupid. Secondly, with this episode imprinted in my memory and threading to another one, I believe I will never ever repeat the same mistake. I recall having laughed at my friend reminiscing his dumb act during a very recent conversation. He had also laughed and said, " Believe you me, it can happen with anyone!"... and I had laughed all the more.
